Fallbrook Electricians Encourage Property Owners to Consider Professional Holiday Lighting Installation

The Electricians Association of Fallbrook (EAF) is urging San Diego residents and commercial property owners to consider professional holiday lighting installation services in decorating their properties. In their holiday safety infographic, the EAF says improper installation and use of holiday lights can spark residential fires and cause fatal injuries.

The EAF is a member-based exclusive organization of licensed electrician contractors in Fallbrook. One of their main objectives is to promote excellence among their ranks and have a united front within the local community. Consumer safety is one of their advocacies and they carry it out through webinars, information dissemination through social media platforms, and by serving as resource persons for the local media and the community.

EAF Executive Director Michael Gibbs says now that the holidays are fast approaching, many property owners would again decorate their areas. “Holiday lights, whether installed indoors or outdoors have safety risks. Every homeowner and businessman must be aware of these safety hazards so that they can keep their loved ones and their property safe from harm,” he says.

Gibbs explains that not every property owner is aware that they are electrical fixtures that are only meant for indoor use. Holiday lights, extension wires and such have ratings and specifications that indicate if they are safe for outdoor use. Once indoor fixtures are used outdoors, safety risks will abound. Green Electric Solutions Fallbrook

In the infographic that they posted on their social media platforms and official website, the EAF mentioned several safety issues concerning holiday lighting and decors. Here are some of the electrical safety concerns that they mentioned:

  • Substandard and defective holiday lights, as well as those that are worn out with broken bulbs or frayed wiring.
  • Lighting and décor that are not meant for outdoor use but are used outdoors and exposed to harsh environmental conditions.
  • Overloaded outlets and extensions indoors and outdoors.
  • Using extension wires that are meant for outdoor use.
  • Decorating outdoors using holiday decorations that are only meant for indoor use.

Fallbrook Electrician Safety Tips for Holiday Decorating

The infographic likewise mentioned several tips that could help ensure holiday safety amid the dazzling lights and happy decorations:

1. Use only high quality and safety tested holiday lights and decorations.

2. Do not overload sockets, and refrain from daisy-chaining extension wires. Never use octopus connections as these further give way to overloading.

3. Use holiday lights and decorations that are labeled safe for outdoor use.

4. When decorating outside, only use extension wires meant for outdoor use.

5. Use flame-resistant Christmas trees.

6. Keep an eye on children so that they will not get injured or sustain electrical shocks concerning the string lights and holiday decors.

7. Get an electrician to professionally install holiday lighting and decor outdoors

The EAF says licensed electricians can help safely and correctly install holiday lighting and decorations as they have the expertise and safety training in doing so.
